God’s Word

Anyone who’s ever attempted to put together a piece of furniture or a child’s toy without directions, understands how essential a good manal can be. The Bible is like the manual to life. It explains the secret to happiness and wholeness, along with helping people understand what is true and good in this world.

In fact, the apostle Paul explained, “All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

If you are looking to grow in your faith, reading the Bible consistently is one of the most important steps you can take. The Bible works like spiritual food that helps a person grow spiritually.

How to Read the Bible

The Bible is divided into two major sections, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament includes the creation of the world and God’s interaction with mankind; specifically the Israelites, God’s chosen people. The New Testament begins with the birth and life of Jesus, God’s son. It continues on to explain the birth and growth of the church.

There are 66 books in the Bible made of many different genres: history, wisdom, poems, or prophetic. In order to make it easier to find specific phrases, each book is broken down into chapters and verses.

Attempting to read the Bible for the first time can feel overwhelming. If you are new to church or new to Christianity and aren’t sure where to start, we would encourage you to begin with one of the books of the Bible about Jesus (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John).  Also, it will be helpful to join a Life Group.

About Jesus

Many have marveled at the mystery of Jesus. He was no king, nor held an office, but those in authority sought his counsel. He ruffled the religious and empowered the poor. He gave hope, challenged, showed compassion, and healed. He spoke of a kingdom few could imagine, and a God people wanted to know.

Historians, through the years, have written on these facts about Jesus. They’re what make him a respected leader in the land. Little controversy ever surrounded these claims. But Jesus never called himself a leader; instead, he claimed to be something more. Jesus called God his “Father” and identified himself as the son of God. He shared how God loved the world so much that he was sent to save it. But, He wouldn’t save the world physically, through battle, or politically savvy. Instead, Jesus saved the world spiritually- through sacrifice. His sacrifice on a cross would help all those who felt lost, broken, or disconnected reconnect with their heavenly father. Jesus offered this free gift to all those willing to believe he truly was God’s son.

For some, belief seems natural. But, for others, belief is a real struggle. If you have questions about Jesus or what it means to become a follower of Jesus, we’d love to speak with you. Email Pastor Jared at jseeland@gpmail.church
